  Sexual assault is one of the most underreported crimes… Despite an increased societal awareness about sexual assault, it continues to be a persistent issue in Canada. In 2014, the rate of self-reported sexual assault was similar to that reported a decade earlier; in contrast, the rates for other types of self-reported violent and non-violent crime declined over the same time period.
